If These Walls Could See
Today I thought I would share with you a short writing piece I did based on a photo. In the writing world, this is called a "writing prompt" and is a quick way to get the creative juices flowing. The photo is of a piece of knotty pine from someone's cabin. The first thing I thought of when I saw the photo was a magnifying glass - and then the phrase "If these walls could talk". I changed the phrase to "If these walls could see" - and this is what I came up with.
Through my magnificent magnifying glass, it’s thick handle and slender frame carved into the soft flesh of my pine, I have seen my family enjoy this space in the woods - a space I helped create. I have seen the kids come in from swimming, all wet and full of sand. I have seen them dry off and sit down to a game of cards with Grandma and Grandpa. I have seen the dog, full of spunk and spirit, stand in the center of the room and shake it’s thick, wet fur causing the entire family to shout “Oh, No!” I have even seen Mom and Dad sneak off to a corner for a quick kiss. I have seen the entire family gather around the warmth of the fire on cool evenings. And, in the quiet interludes between visits, I have seen the mice scurry out of their hiding places and scamper across the floor, happy to have the cabin to themselves.
What memories do you have of cabin life? Please share as I would love to hear your tales!
